What makes Ray different?

Most fitness apps give you more content, but Ray solves the real problem: finding the time, energy, and motivation to be consistent.

Ray is a personal trainer that eliminates decision-making. They tell you exactly what to do and adapt in real-time if you’re tired, injured, or in a hotel gym with no equipment. Unlike video libraries, Ray learns from you, counts your reps, tracks your progress, and keeps you accountable so you can finally build a routine that survives real life.

How does the AI part work?

Think of Ray’s AI as its brain. We continually learn from your feedback, preferences, and performance to make your fitness program deeply personal. When you say you’re tired, they adjust the load. When you’re traveling, they’ll create a convenient bodyweight workout or adapt to the hotel gym. They remember the exercises you enjoy and track your progress automatically. This allows Ray to deliver the kind of 1:1 guidance that was previously only available through expensive human personal training.

Who is Ray for?

Ray was designed for busy people who struggle to fit consistent exercise into their lives. If you’ve tried other apps and failed, feel intimidated by the gym, lack motivation, or just don’t have the mental energy to figure out what to do, Ray is for you. Because every program is built from the ground up for your goals, equipment, and energy level, it’s a perfect fit for any stage of your fitness journey.

What kind of equipment do I need? (Do I need a gym membership?)

Ray will adapt to whatever you have, from bodyweight-only to a full gym. To unlock the widest variety of exercises, we recommend having access to a set of dumbbells.

How much does Ray cost?

Ray is free for early users. This allows us to learn and improve the experience.

What kind of workouts will I be doing?

Ray works with you to create a program that fits your goals and keeps you engaged. Ray focuses on strength training as the foundation because it is one of the most effective ways to build energy and stay healthy. Ray also adds conditioning, cardio, stretching, and mobility work to keep things interesting.

Is Ray meant to replace a human personal trainer?

Personal trainers are amazing, but their cost—often $600-$1,800 per month—and scheduling challenges – put them out of reach for most people. Ray was built to capture the best practices of expert trainers and make them accessible to everyone. We provide the guidance, personalization, and accountability of a trainer at a fraction of the cost, available anytime, anywhere.

How does Ray adapt to my energy levels or injuries?

Ray will adapt to the realities of your life. During setup, Ray will ask about any sensitive areas or injuries to build your program accordingly. And before any workout, you can tell Ray if you’re feeling tired, sore, or low on energy, and they will adjust your session so you can stay consistent.

How long are the workouts?

You decide! Currently, Ray can program as short as 20 minutes and as long as an hour. (We’ve found that since Ray helps you stay on track, you accomplish more exercises in a shorter time frame).

Do I have to schedule workouts in advance?

No. If you’d like, Ray will create a schedule for you. However, you can easily add/adjust or remove workouts at any time in the app (or by chatting with Ray over SMS).

I travel frequently. Can Ray adapt to hotel gyms or no-equipment situations?

Yes, you can set up multiple location profiles to support your home, gym, and travel needs. Or, at the beginning of a workout, you can just tell Ray what you’re working with, and they’ll adapt for you.

What happens if I miss a week (or more) of workouts?

Ray works for you! They will adjust your program to fit your life, ensuring that if you’ve missed a few weeks, it’s easy to get back on track without starting over.

Does Ray actually talk to me during the workout?

Yes. Ray provides hands-free audio guidance to remove guesswork and help you feel confident in your movements. They will count your reps, time your rest, and offer encouragement, all while you listen to your own music or podcast in the background. You can easily tell Ray to provide more or less guidance to fit your preference.

Can I listen to my own music or podcasts while using Ray?

Absolutely. You can listen to music or podcasts from any app, and Ray will adjust the audio to guide you along the way.

Will Ray count my reps? (How does that work?)

Yes, but this is optional. Ray can use the camera on your phone to sense your body position and track your reps. It’s a fun way to stay accountable.

Do you share my data with anyone?

No, Ray is focused on your privacy. We don’t share or sell your data with any 3rd parties.  

If you’re using my camera, where does the video go?

Your privacy is our top priority. The optional rep-counting feature uses your phone’s camera for on-device computer vision. This means the AI processes your movement locally on your phone in real-time.

How does Ray track my progress & keep me accountable?

Ray will send you messages the night before a workout to keep you on track, and will help you connect with friends in the app who can cheer you on. Ray also learns about the exercises and programs you prefer and will work to evolve and adjust your workouts accordingly.

Does Ray work with wearables? (Do I need a wearable?)

Ray has an app for Apple Watch and connects to Apple Health. Ray will observe activities from other wearables through Apple Health. (So if you go for a run on Sunday, Ray will know and adjust your workout on Monday.) You don’t need a wearable to work out with Ray; it just adds to the experience.

What devices does Ray support (iOS/Android)?

Right now, Ray only supports iOS. We hope to add Android support soon.
